Annotation Tool: User not found

Hello,

I am trying to use the annotation tool locally per instructions. After running docker-compose up on the given example config (vanilla) of the latest repo version, the log says:

WARN 88 [-/172.21.0.1/-/100ms GET /api/user/info] nodejs.ForbiddenError: User not found

... with the same error displayed on the browser client in a pop-up. There is no other information or display.

There seems to be no other error or warning in the log.

The migrations are successful. I can inspect the PostgreSQL database via PGAdmin.

The "users" table contains a single user (from DEFAULT_ADMIN_EMAIL).

I tried PostgresSQL 12 and 14.

It should be noted that I have to run docker-compose up twice before the database is properly set up. Some errors are thrown.

Do you have an idea what's going on here? Thanks!

Hi @kaumanns just to double check did you replace all instances of somesafeuser and somesafepassword in the docker-compose.yml file? There are a few more instances that need to be replaced than what is explained in the README.

I just used the vanilla config, but yes, I also tried by replacing these words with s/old/new/g. I doublechecked.

I just found a workaround that may be a hint to the underlying issue. This is the full error message in the log:

Turns out that the super_admin has a user ID == 2 in my database, not 4, as requested by the WHERE filter. Then the GUI just hangs at that error.

I changed the super_admin ID to 4 in the database manually. Now everything works as expected. Including setting up new users.

Idea: maybe there are some lingering browser cookies messing up the table lookup?

Thanks for the additional info! And I'm glad you were able to find a workaround. I'm consulting with my colleagues about the best course of action here.

This is definitely a bug that needs to be fixed since the source code of the annotator is not open source. The hacky workaround did work for me.
